We're really excited about the weekend - and not just because we're getting MARRIED(!!!). Also because we love what California has to offer, including the quirkiness of Bolinas, the serenity of Pt. Reyes Station, and the beauty of the surrounding areas. Here are some things to consider as you plan your trip to Bolinas:

TRAVEL

AIRPORTS

  • San Francisco (SFO) is the main airport. Oakland (OAK) is also convenient. Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa equidistant, but only has a few west coast airports to which it connects.

CARS AND DRIVING

  • While we can't coordinate rides for everyone, we created a Google Doc to help make carpooling easy! See THIS link if you have a ride to give or need one from a fellow weekender.
  • Otherwise, yes, you'll probably need to rent a car to get to Bolinas.
  • All routes to Bolinas are scenic. The roads are twisty and curvy, winding through beautiful hillsides and offering spectacular vistas. Be prepared to go slow and enjoy the view.
    • Allow for two hours from SFO/OAK to get to Bolinas and one hour from the Golden Gate Bridge.
    • Beware: There is one gas station in Bolinas, and the cost of gas is usually inflated. We recommend you fill up along highway 101 before you head toward the coast.

  • Cell reception is spotty (see below) on the way to, and in, Bolinas.
    • Print out directions and maps before making the journey like it's 1995

    • Pro tip: Turn off iMessages. 'Green' text messages are more likely to be sent/received

PARKING FOR FRIDAY/SATURDAY

  • If you plan to drive on Friday to the Welcome Dinner, there is abundant parking at Briarcombe.

  • There is NO PARKING at the venue for Saturday.
    •  If you plan to drive on Saturday, please park a mile away at St. Mary Magdalene Church (the cemetery lot to the left of the church).
      • We will have a shuttle looping to the parking lot and the Barn before/after the Ceremony

      • The last shuttle will leave the church lot at 1:30pm sharp.

    • If you are driving yourself on Saturday and don't want a shuttle, please let Dave know.

SHUTTLES

  • Friday: if you want a shuttle right TO Briarcombe, let Dave know ahead of time. If you want a ride FROM Briarcombe, the driver will be there so just let him know directly.

  • Saturday:
    • See above if you are driving yourself
    • We will coordinate shuttles picking up from everyone's lodging. Dave will email you with an expected time for your shuttle pickup at your lodging
      • Expect the pickups to be between 12:30pm and 1:30pm

      • At the end of the night, shuttles will take you home

ACCOMMODATIONS

See the specific page about accommodations. But... we STRONGLY URGE you to book soon. Bolinas, Olema, and Pt. Reyes Station are all small towns with limited options. October is one of the nicest months, so rooms will book quickly.

Again, we will provide transportation on Friday and Saturday between Bolinas, Olema and downtown Pt. Reyes Station. We discourage staying further North or East of these towns as the roads are very dark and very windy and our transportation will not cover the extended areas.

ATTIRE

Friday: Casual!

Saturday. We'll be looking sharp, and we hope you will, too. Please note: the ceremony location requires us all to walk up a hill on an uneven path. Be careful with your shoe selection (no high heels! Wedges ok!). Ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside, and dinner and dancing will be in an open barn.

Sunday: Casual!

Average High in Bolinas in October is low 70s. It can get quite chilly at night, so prepare accordingly Seriously, bring that extra warm layer, or two.

KIDS

We'll have children soon enough, but we don't yet and would like this weekend to be an adult affair.

CELL PHONE COVERAGE IS SPOTTY

You may not be able to even get text messages, let alone call or use your smartphone.

Prepare like it's the 90s. Print out maps ahead of time. Know where you're going and what time you need to be there.

NO SMOKING

California is in a major draught, and that means things are sensitive to fire. Sorry, no smoking at the venue. (But actually, we're not that sorry.)
